Nothing has introduced a new AI-powered feature called Essential Voice for its smartphones aimed at improving the overall voice input experience. The update focuses on making dictated text cleaner and easier to read, and adds translation and smart shortcuts. The company also confirmed the first list of devices that will receive this feature.

Essential Voice is designed to go beyond conventional speech-to-text tools, which often capture pauses, repeated words, and unnecessary parasitic words. Instead of converting speech exactly as it sounds, the system improves sentences in real time to produce more polished text for messages, emails, and short notes. The feature can be activated via the keyboard or a special Essential Key button available on supported Nothing smartphones.

According to the company, the tool supports more than 100 languages with automatic language detection. Users can also ask the system to instantly translate dictated text into another language during a conversation. Another addition is the ability to create personalized shortcuts for frequently used phrases, names, or addresses. For example, if you say the name of your favorite restaurant, the system will automatically substitute the saved address into the text. Essential Voice is currently available for Nothing Phone (3) and Phone (4a) Pro devices. It will also appear on Phone (4a) in early May.

Nothing also said that future updates will introduce context-sensitive suggestions, which will allow the feature to adapt depending on whether the user is writing a message, a work email, or performing a search.

The company added that audio recordings are encrypted during processing and are not permanently stored on its servers after text generation. This approach is aimed at addressing privacy concerns associated with cloud-based voice processing systems.
