The OnePlus Open foldable smartphone became one of the most striking devices of 2023, combining powerful hardware with unexpectedly mature software. That is why the emergence of a successor seemed like a logical step. However, OnePlus did not release Open 2 in either 2024 or 2025, and now even 2026 is in doubt.
According to Smartprix, the company has canceled the global launch of OnePlus Open 2, which was previously scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. There are no official reasons for this decision, but sources suggest that the rising cost of RAM and storage could have played a role.

The situation looks particularly strange given that the device has already been tested internally. Canceling a product at such a late stage of development is atypical, especially for a smartphone that has been the subject of active discussion among fans of foldable models for several years.
Those who still want to imagine what OnePlus Open 2 could have been like should pay attention to the upcoming OPPO Find N6. OnePlus was expected to stick to its proven strategy and reuse OPPO’s foldable smartphone hardware platform, as it did with the original Open.
According to preliminary data, the OnePlus Open 2 was supposed to have an 8.12-inch foldable 2K display paired with a 6.6-inch AMOLED screen, both with a 165Hz refresh rate. Performance would be handled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, coupled with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

The cameras also looked flagship: a triple 50-megapixel main module with ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses, a 32-megapixel front camera on the outer screen, and a 20-megapixel rear camera on the internal display. The smartphone was expected to have a 6000 mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The prototypes allegedly had a black faux leather body and a design similar to the Huawei Mate X7.
So far, OnePlus has not officially commented on the situation, so the future of Open 2 remains uncertain, and the foldable smartphone market may not see one of the brand’s most anticipated devices.
