Retro portable device manufacturer Anbernic decided to surprise the market again and introduced a gamepad that can easily be classified as “unusual but interesting things.” The company produces a controller with a built-in screen. However, unlike the second display concept that was introduced with the Nintendo Wii U, the screen is not intended for gaming. Its main task is to simplify settings. And yes, in addition to this, the device also has a heart rate sensor. If you’re going to experiment, you should do it to the fullest.

The Anbernic RG G01 model is equipped with a 2.5-inch HD display, which the company calls a “smart screen”. According to the developers, users will be able to change button assignments, create macros, and adjust controller parameters without the need to install additional software on a connected device. All control is performed directly through the gamepad interface.

Special attention is drawn to the built-in heart rate sensor. Anbernic claims that this feature will help to monitor your health during intense gaming sessions. How practical this solution is for gamers is an open question. Heart rate monitoring is usually associated with medical or sports devices, not gaming accessories. However, in the case of the RG G01, the company obviously relies on the effect of novelty and an unconventional approach.

In terms of technical capabilities, the gamepad supports three connection methods at once. These are Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4 GHz wireless mode, and a wired connection. The device has built-in trigger calibration, analog sticks, and a 6-axis gyroscope. There are 4 programmable buttons with macro support on the back of the case. The manufacturer also promises a 1000 Hz sampling rate in both wired and wireless modes.
Compatibility covers several popular platforms at once. The RG G01 can be used with PCs, Nintendo Switch, Android devices, and iOS. In this way, the company is trying to make the new product a universal accessory for various usage scenarios.
The exact release date has not yet been announced. It is only known that the release is scheduled for the near future. There is also no information about the price. At the moment, Anbernic has limited itself to publishing promotional materials and a launch video, leaving users to decide for themselves whether this gamepad with a screen and heart rate sensor is the kind of gimmick that deserves a place on their desktop or in their gaming collection.
