My initial reaction to the GT Chair Vida X was very strong – positive, but intense. I already have considerable experience with both gaming and office chairs, yet comparing them to the Vida X is like placing a Nokia 3310 next to a Xiaomi 17 Pro. Simply saying they are both “mobile phones” doesn’t capture the generational leap between them.

Positioning and Price

The difference becomes more understandable when considering the price. The GT Chair Vida X, or V7-X, is the most expensive chair I’ve reviewed in my life – $600, roughly the cost of a budget gaming PC, a console, or a smartphone that could last me years.

It’s important to consider the context: this is not just a gaming chair. It is an ergonomic chair, designed not for entertainment, but to prevent discomfort in the back, shoulders, lower back, and beyond.

Assembly of the GT Chair Vida X

The concept isn’t unique – what’s unique is the execution. Starting with assembly: first, the box is easy to handle thanks to the packaging, although gloves are recommended. Second, I’ve never assembled a chair this easily in my life. Why? Because it comes 90% pre-assembled.

You simply need to insert five 65 mm casters into the metal glossy base, install the Category 4 gas lift, and fit the assembly under the chair. Nothing else requires screws or tools – except for the optional headrest, which comes separately and, again, is not mandatory.

The box can easily be used as a support when attaching the gas lift to the chair base. However, despite the simplicity of the assembly, the Vida X does include an instruction manual, tucked into a pocket attached to the back of the chair.

My only critique of the manual is how basic it is. It does not cover everything you need to know about operating the GT Chair Vida X, and what it does cover isn’t detailed. Be sure to watch the instructional video – or simply check our review above, where I explain everything in full detail.

Controls

To illustrate just how unconventional the Vida X is, here’s an example. With every chair I’ve reviewed before, adjusting the gas lift height required placing a hand under the seat and pushing the lever upward.

So how do you adjust the height on the Vida X? By pressing a hook located under the right armrest. Only the right one – because under the left armrest is the recline lever. Yes, it’s a lever, not a clamp, which is an important distinction the manual doesn’t explain. Before watching the video, I couldn’t figure out why I sometimes accidentally reclined the chair but couldn’t return it to vertical.

How does this control system actually work? As I understand it, it’s similar to a bicycle brake – components are connected via cables. This is the main innovation of the GT Chair, something I’ve never seen before. It’s advantageous because it’s convenient, allows for more precise adjustments, and the hooks are easier to press. The chair feels futuristic, almost like the next evolutionary step in furniture design.

GT Chair Vida X Ergonomics

Does it offer lumbar support? Yes, and it can move up and down. Can you adjust the backrest height? Yes – raise it slightly and the height stays; raise it to the maximum and it resets. Can you adjust the headrest angle? Yes, and its height is also adjustable.

You can adjust the backrest resistance when reclining using a lever located underneath. The manual doesn’t explain how it works, but it’s covered in the video. There’s also a separate button to move the seat forward and backward, which I understood correctly on the first try – though in cold conditions, the mechanism can be quite stiff. You need to stand up and move the seat manually, but it is definitely possible.

The armrests are extremely flexible. The only thing they can’t do is tilt forward or backward – but they move up and down, left and right, and forward and backward without tilting. That’s four degrees of freedom. They’re labeled as 5D, but the fifth “dimension” shown in the illustrations is actually the hooks, which isn’t entirely accurate. Still, it’s a minor detail.

Specifications

The technical details are interesting. First, I’ve never heard of a chair of this type supporting up to 250 kg, as some sites claim. Others, like Telemart, list the limit at 136 kg. For context, the standard for a gaming chair is around 120 kg. This capacity is certainly not due to the gas lift alone, but likely results from the other materials used in the construction.

The construction includes metal, such as the aluminum alloy ADC12, and durable plastics that have an industrial feel – a compliment, since industrial design prioritizes strength above all. This contributes to the chair’s weight of 20 kg, even though it looks like it should weigh about half as much, thanks to the extensive use of mesh in areas that are typically solid fabric or faux leather.

Design and Materials

The chair does include faux leather, but wherever it’s absent, there’s nylon mesh. The advantage of the mesh is twofold: first, it allows the body to breathe perfectly; second, it’s far less likely to sag compared to cushions, even those with memory foam. This results in significantly better body support, which is obviously important for an ergonomic chair.

Sitting on bare leather can be uncomfortable, and in winter you won’t get any warmth from the seat. Also, damaging mesh is more problematic than damaging fabric. Of course, try damaging this particular mesh – it’s tough – but while I’ve seen faux leather reupholstered, I’ve never heard of anyone reupholstering mesh.

GT Chair Vida X 1

I saved the design for last because, in the GT Chair Vida X, it’s the least important advantage. Still, I haven’t seen such a versatile model in a long time. The design is aggressive yet restrained – the backrest, for example, has subtle burgundy accents that are barely noticeable, but they’re there. Elsewhere, the stitching is excellent in quality. The only noticeable plastic seams appear during assembly, meaning almost all of them are underneath and out of sight.

Conclusions

This chair is exceptional in every way – except for the price, which is justified. The controls are top-notch, and the remote-style mechanisms are brilliant. Ergonomics are comprehensive, with excellent support and dimensions. Is it suitable for a gamer? Absolutely. For an office worker? Yes. For someone with specific ergonomic needs? Even more so. Overall, the GT Chair Vida X comes highly recommended.
