Apple first demonstrated the concept of video streaming for CarPlay at WWDC 2025, but the full release of this option will take place only with the release of iOS 27. Now, when playing videos in AirPlay-enabled apps, users will be able to redirect the video stream directly to the display of the car’s multimedia system. To activate this feature, users simply select their vehicle in the list of available AirPlay devices on the iPhone screen, making the process as simple as possible.
However, the innovation has a significant limitation, as not every car will be able to support it. The feature will not be available on all cars with CarPlay, as it is only compatible with new car models that have this technology built into the hardware. In addition, video playback is allowed only when the vehicle is at a complete stop and in parking mode. The manufacturer offers quite logical scenarios for using this tool, such as watching content while waiting at the airport or while recharging at an electric vehicle station, when the driver really needs to do something.
It’s also worth reading that the iOS 27 operating system reveals many details about the future of Apple’s flexible smartphone. In addition to the updated AirPlay tool, the American brand opens a specialized API for third-party developers. Thanks to this, various applications will have a full-fledged interface for searching and selecting video content directly through the CarPlay system, so drivers will no longer have to pick up their phones to find the right video to watch.
The most practical part of the update is the modernized Siri AI, which is now integrated into CarPlay on iPhone 15 Pro and newer smartphones. During the demonstration, Apple showed an example when a driver asked the assistant about a tourist route recommended by his friend, and the system instantly voiced the answer, eliminating the need for a person to search for information in text messages while driving. Such options significantly increase the convenience of using the device while driving.
Apple smartphones of previous generations will also have access to the rest of the CarPlay interface improvements, with the exception of Siri AI functionality. At the same time, motorists in the European Union find themselves in a more difficult situation, as Siri AI will not appear in the iOS 27 operating system in Europe, regardless of the specifications and model of the smartphone.
The overall picture of innovations is complemented by four smaller but quite useful fixes. In the media playback window, the ability to rewind audio tracks has finally been implemented, allowing you to quickly jump to the desired moment in songs or podcasts. In addition, the developers have improved the accuracy of GPS and the display of the car’s direction. A new compact audio player inside the interface allows you to keep music controls in front of your eyes while working with other applications. Finally, the team of engineers has improved the stability of the CarPlay wireless connection, which should eliminate the main everyday problem that annoyed most owners of this system.
