Xiaomi’s recent event was aimed at addressing these concerns. Covering more than 1.2 thousand kilometers with just one visit to a charging station demonstrates not only the battery capacity, but also the extreme energy efficiency of the system. Considering that the average driver would still need several rest breaks, this stop looks quite organic.
Does this success mean the final demise of internal combustion engines? Not yet, but the SU7 is making a loud statement about its ambitions. The trip lasted a total of 15 hours, which is a serious test for any person. It can be assumed that the equipment coped with the load much better than the crew. In fact, the main work here was done by the efficiency of the power plant, which controlled temperature conditions and energy distribution with surgical precision.
In order not to get lost in the advertising slogans, it is worth paying attention to the logistical aspects. The route from Beijing to Shanghai is a traditional route for testing cars for endurance. By organizing a live broadcast of the event, Xiaomi removed any questions about ideal laboratory conditions. The audience saw the car in its natural environment – on an open highway. It was not a slow movement for the sake of economy, the car was moving in a full-fledged road rhythm at real speeds.
Of course, there are no perfect things. The question of the vehicle’s behavior in extreme cold or after prolonged battery use remains open. However, at the moment, SU7 proves that it is not just a gadget on wheels, but a serious player in an oversaturated segment. Many startups have made loud promises that didn’t materialize, but Xiaomi is showing real results on the track. If the company can maintain this level consistently, traditional automakers should start to worry. For starters, this is a very convincing result.
