The Amazon Prime Video streaming service has introduced a new feature called News Clips, which will offer users curated selections of news videos covering major national and local events. These are short videos sourced directly from several “trusted news sources.”

The new feature follows the company’s December 2025 launch of a dedicated news section, which gave all users in the U.S. – even those without a Prime subscription – access to 24/7 live broadcasts and on-demand programming. Channels in the news section include ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, CNN Headlines, LiveNOW from Fox, and NBC News NOW, with additional content available through connected platforms such as Peacock Premium Plus, Paramount+, FOX One, and CNN All Access. However, this is only available if the user has a subscription to a third-party service.

“News Clips” is located in the app’s top navigation bar, right where you can find regular news. According to Amazon, you can view the videos themselves by scrolling through the “Trending Topics” or “Local News” carousels. Currently, the feature is available only on connected TV devices, but Amazon has stated that it will soon be added to mobile apps and browsers as well. However, it is not yet known whether the clips on mobile devices will be optimized for vertical video.

Prime Video is the latest streaming platform to add short videos, likely in hopes of attracting more attention from Gen Z, as members of this generation frequently watch content from creators and influencers – for example, on YouTube Shorts. Netflix was likely one of the first to offer this feature with “Fast Laughs,” launched in March 2021. It featured a vertical, full-screen feed of funny 30-second clips from comedy movies and stand-up performances. In April, the platform began expanding on the Fast Laughs concept by launching a general “Clips” feed, which includes not only funny videos but also trailers, dramatic scenes, and teasers.

Disney+ has also recently become another streaming service offering short-form content. Earlier this year, the platform launched the “Verts” feature with short videos, allowing users to watch brief scenes from Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

Other streaming services, including Peacock and HBO Max, also have their own short-form video feeds. Peacock uses vertical clips to create quick compilations of highlights and daily updates drawn from its extensive library of reality shows (Bravo), talk shows, and, of course, live sports broadcasts. HBO Max, for its part, uses such a feed to showcase teasers for HBO drama series and Discovery reality shows.
