Apple may rename Apple ID in 2024

-

According to a MacRumors report, unnamed sources close to the Cupertino-based tech giant said that the name Apple ID will be replaced by the name Apple Account. It is reported that the rebranding is being carried out as part of the company’s experiments, and the new name may be implemented as early as this year. As for when users should expect this change, the proposed timeline coincides with the release of iOS 18 and macOS 15, most likely in September or October.

It’s unclear if the name change serves a larger purpose if the Apple ID structure will change again like it did between 2000 and 2011, or if it’s just a marketing change. It is noteworthy that Apple ID is the only way to log into an Apple device, access iCloud, use Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Pay and other company services, and is an important system for the company.

Last year, Apple announced support for passkeys in iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma. Apple users have been automatically assigned a passkey that they can use to sign in to their Apple ID online. This meant users didn’t need passwords to log into their accounts, and access keys also added an extra layer of security.

While iOS 18 could potentially end the Apple ID era, there are reasons to expect positive changes from it. According to the report, the next generation of the iPhone operating system may bring a visual update to the user interface and add elements of Apple Vision Pro, such as the translucent effect and the blur effect. It is also reported that iOS 18 will bring several artificial intelligence features to the iPhone.
