iPhone under-display camera technology is currently under development

-

Development of the iPhone under-display camera technology has already commenced, as per recent reports. The display supplier in charge of developing this system is LG Innotek and their work is already in progress. These displays in question will be in use on iPhones that’ll launch in 2026, which is still years ago.

This display technology will replace the current Dynamic Island that kicked off on the iPhone 14 Pro series. This type of display is already in use on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and 5 foldable devices. Just like these foldable displays, the camera on the iPhones to launch in 2026 will feature a camera under the display.

The particular display technology in question is known as the Freeform Optic lens. According to the reports on this display, it’ll bring some improvements to the standard under-display camera technology. These improvements might make the hole for the camera less conspicuous and out of the user’s mind.

A few years ago, the Freeform Optic lens was merely a patent under LG Innotek’s name. The display manufacturer argues that their technology will help improve image quality on the front-facing camera. In addition to this under-display camera technology, Apple plans to also add under-display Face ID technology as well.

Possibly this coming iPhone under-display camera technology will outperform that on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and 5. However, Samsung is also planning to upgrade the under-display camera technology on this foldable device over the coming years. By 2026, netizens will witness the launch of iPhones with under-display camera technology.
