Prime Video has released a full trailer for the miniseries “Carrie” by Michael Flanagan. The project is based on Stephen King’s cult classic novel, written half a century ago.
Summer Howell plays the lead character, Carrie White. The plot centers on a girl who has been homeschooled her entire life and finds herself completely unprepared for the harsh realities of modern schools in the 2020s. The trailer showcases the story’s signature peer bullying and the naive heroine’s shock at her first period, but the creators promise to significantly expand the story’s universe and delve deeper into the characters’ personalities leading up to the key events of prom night.
Regarding this reimagining of the classic, the director noted: “Carrie was written half a century ago,” Flanagan said at Comic-Con in San Diego earlier this year. “Brian De Palma adapted *Carrie* brilliantly. It’s a cult classic. It’s untouchable. There’s absolutely no reason to try to follow in his footsteps and go down the same path. However, the world has changed a lot. I think many people believe they know what this series is like. And what pleases me most today is what a big surprise our *Carrie* will be.”
The cast also includes Sienna Agudong as Sue Snell – the only popular girl who feels guilty about bullying Carrie – Joel Ulett as Tommy Ross, Amber Midthunder as gym teacher Rita DeJardain, Arthur Conti as Billy Nolan, Josie Tota as Tina Blake, and Talia Dude as the new character Emaline.
Samantha Sloyan portrays the main character’s mother, Margaret White. In addition, the cast includes Michael Trucco, Rahul Kohli, Ruth Codd, Matthew Lillard, Katie Sackhoff, Heather Graham, Tamo Penikett, and Kate Siegel.
The director himself has previously emphasized that he does not intend to create yet another direct adaptation of the cult classic novel or attempt to replicate the achievements of Brian De Palma’s classic film. According to the director, viewers are in for a major surprise, as the series presents a much broader context of life in Chamberlain and explores the pressures of the modern world on the main character.
