Over the past few years, Google has gradually expanded Gemini’s capabilities beyond the browser. Earlier this year, the company released a native Gemini app for macOS, while competing AI companies, notably OpenAI, have long offered standalone ChatGPT apps for macOS and Windows. Even Microsoft is developing a Copilot app that will combine the consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot on Windows. But now Google is joining the competition with its own standalone Gemini app for Windows.
Google announced today that the Gemini app is now available for PCs running Windows 10 and Windows 11. It supports x64- and ARM64-based devices and is available in all countries and languages where the Gemini service itself is supported.

Like the ChatGPT desktop app, Gemini can be launched quickly without leaving the program you’re currently using. By default, pressing Alt + Space opens Gemini on top of the active window, allowing users to ask questions, check facts, and perform other actions. You can also change the keyboard shortcut in the Gemini app settings. Additionally, users can launch Gemini from the Windows taskbar or system tray.

Thanks to the new native Windows app, Gemini users can assign multi-step research, planning, and other tasks to Gemini Spark. Gemini can also connect to Google services, including Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Calendar, allowing it to find information in email threads, summarize documents, and more.
Google is also bringing its generative media capabilities to the desktop app. Users can create images using Nano Banana and generate videos via Gemini Omni within the same interface.
It’s important to note that the new version of the Gemini app for Windows does not yet have all the native integrations available on Mac. On macOS, Gemini can understand the content displayed on the screen, use voice commands to create and edit content in various apps, and allow Gemini Spark to work with local folders to organize and summarize files. At the same time, Google has indicated that it will add more features to the Windows app in the future.
