Apple has introduced the next update of its mobile platform, version 26.5, which contains three significant innovations for iPhone users. In addition to functional changes, the latest software offers bright visual solutions for the desktop and a number of additional fixes. According to Apple, the main focus of the release is to introduce a beta version of end-to-end encryption for the RCS protocol in text communications, as well as adding new Pride Luminance wallpapers available for download. At the same time, the developers worked on bug fixes, security improvements, and overall system optimization.
Among the three key innovations of iOS 26.5 is support for secure RCS messaging. This feature, which ensures the confidentiality of correspondence with subscribers of other platforms, is currently being tested and will gradually become available to customers of compatible cellular operators. The second notable element is the Pride Luminance wallpaper, which features a dynamic refraction of the color spectrum. The third improvement concerns the mapping service: the “Suggested Places” section of the maps now generates selections based on current trends in the vicinity and previous user searches.
However, the list of changes is not limited to these items. In particular, in the coming summer months, Apple plans to integrate ads into the search results of its own maps for residents of the United States and Canada. Commenters on the specialized resource were skeptical about the news – the most popular comment, supported by dozens of readers, questioned the status of wallpapers and ads as “priority features.”
iOS 26.5 also streamlines subscription terms in the App Store: annual commitments with a monthly payment option are now mandatory for US customers, although this mechanism was launched globally in version 26.4. The update also affected the work with branded accessories: mice, keyboards, and trackpads of the Magic line now automatically create a Bluetooth pair after the first connection via USB-C.
The regional peculiarities of the update are most noticeable in the European Union, where Live Activity transmission to third-party accessories has been introduced in accordance with regulatory standards. At the same time, Brazil has identified the technical basis for the future emergence of alternative app stores and the installation of software from unknown sources.
The current version is the final chord before the presentation of the next major stage of the system’s development. Apple is preparing to announce iOS 27 in less than a month during the WWDC 2026 conference. The official event is scheduled for Monday, June 8, and the first build for developers should be available for installation on the same day.
