An interactive initiative dedicated to a historic document from 1710 – Pylyp Orlyk’s Constitution – has been launched in the virtual space. The website went live on August 23, 2026, just before Ukraine’s Independence Restoration Day. This event was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the country’s current Constitution, providing an opportunity to reflect anew on the roots of Ukrainian statehood.

This digital hub presents the hetman’s document as a foundational work on the accountability of governing institutions, a warning against the abuse of power, transparency in governance, and responsibility to society. These principles remain relevant to this day. In the future, this resource will be integrated into the larger web platform Respublica Ruthenica, which will cover the political life of Ukraine in the 17th–18th centuries as an integral part of the European sphere.
An adapted translation of the Constitution into modern language is available at pylyporlyk.org, allowing ordinary readers to easily understand the content without specialized training. On the platform, you’ll also be greeted by a virtual Hetman Pylyp Orlyk, whose appearance was generated using AI. The website helps viewers perceive this legal document not merely as an archival record, but as a reflection of the ruling elite’s vision regarding key state issues at the time: mechanisms for checks and balances, the protection of civil liberties, and the building of trust in state institutions.
This concept will later expand into the full-fledged Respublica Ruthenica project – an online resource dedicated to the state-building process of the 17th–18th centuries, historical figures, primary sources, and connections with Europe. Respublica Ruthenica will gradually be expanded with new materials, archival records, and biographies of prominent figures, as well as offering virtual tours, video segments, and interactive multimedia elements.
This initiative was organized by the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP), Vodafone Ukraine, and NEQSOL Holding. A group of Ukrainian scholars and artists provided the scientific and historical foundation.
The expert group includes Oleksii Sokyrko (historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, associate professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv), Natalia Kryvda (Doctor of Philosophy, professor, researcher of national culture and identity), and Natalia Pavlusenko (artist, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, who created the portrait of the hetman).
