“Land of Silence”, a short documentary about humanitarian demining in Ukraine, is now available online. The film, which was previously shortlisted for the Tokyo Short Film Festival 2025 in Japan, is now available on YouTube.

The film reveals the stories of people who work daily with the consequences of war – deminers, researchers and mine action specialists. It was created to draw attention to the scale of the problem and emphasize the importance of joint efforts in the demining process.

Land of Silence

Today, Ukraine is among the most heavily mined countries in the world: about 22% of its territory, which is 132076 km², could be potentially contaminated with mines and needs to be surveyed. The project was implemented at the initiative of the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine. Financial support was provided by the Republic of Korea, and the partners were the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The film was directed by Viktor Solodukha and Emil Bakhtiyev of BAZA Production. The film features people who work every day to make Ukrainian territories safe: Pavlo Bondarenko, head of the mechanized demining department of the State Emergency Service in Mykolaiv region, Natalia Gorun, a non-technical survey specialist at Norwegian People’s Aid, and Oleksandr Bonchkovsky, PhD in geography and chief scientific advisor to the Ukrainian Researchers’ Society.

Land of Silence

“Land of Silence” has already been presented at both international and Ukrainian film festivals. In particular, the film was included in the shortlist of the Tokyo Short Film Festival 2025 in Japan, where it was also included in the recommended viewing program. In Ukraine, the film was shown in the non-competition program of the 54th Molodist International Film Festival in Kyiv. A separate screening recently took place in Mykolaiv, the region where a large part of the filming took place.

You can watch the film on YouTube and on the Sweet.TV platform.
