Microsoft has introduced a number of new features for its stationary and portable gaming consoles. Xbox SeriesS|X, Xbox One X, and Xbox One S owners can now stream games through Xbox Cloud Gaming in 1440p resolution.

However, this feature is only available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, just like on other platforms. While using streaming games on consoles designed for local play seems like a niche scenario, it can be useful when you have limited storage space or to run modern games on older devices.

In addition, Microsoft has simplified the process of formatting compatible SD cards for ROG Xbox Ally. This can now be done directly through the Xbox app during game installation, which greatly speeds up the setup of your game library.

The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X portable consoles now have the ability to pre-compile shaders for games, which significantly reduces delays caused by real-time shader compilation. The official blog links to a page with a list of other improvements for Xbox portables, but the last post there is dated November 2025, and there are no new entries at the moment.

Thanks to AMD’s Ryzen Z2 series processors, the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally will receive CPU and GPU driver updates, at least for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, the same support does not apply to portable consoles with Ryzen Z1 chips, which suddenly lost support, leaving them without new drivers and optimizations.
