French startup NAOX presented a portable electroencephalography system at CES, focused on clinical use and research.

However, along with the professional solution, the company demonstrated another direction that has much broader potential. It is a consumer product that integrates brain activity reading technology directly into the format of wireless headphones. In the future, such a device can combine the usual listening to music with constant monitoring of the brain.

Currently, the only mass-produced NAOX product is the Link NX01. This is an in-ear EEG device designed as an alternative to traditional wired caps used in sleep clinics and medical laboratories. The device is designed for long-term studies and allows you to collect data during a person’s daily activities, not just in a hospital setting. At the same time, Link NX01 is not intended for the mass market and is used exclusively in the clinical environment.

The NAOX Wave prototype attracted the most attention. It uses the same in-ear EEG technology in the format of a pair of full-fledged wireless headphones. Just like the professional model, Wave works in the background and tracks brain biomarkers invisibly throughout the day. According to the company, the device is able to analyze brain activity during work, rest, and sleep. The data is transferred to a mobile application, where the user receives summary information about mental state, sleep quality, cognitive performance, and the so-called “brain age.”

NAOX reports that the consumer version of the headphones is scheduled for release in late 2026. At the same time, the company is considering licensing its technology to other audio manufacturers. This means that the built-in EEG can appear not only in NAOX branded headphones, but also in models of more famous brands that are interested in combining audio and neuromonitoring.
