Netflix has introduced a separate free app called Playground for smartphones and tablets aimed at children under 8 years old. It is available to all users of the service regardless of the tariff plan, and the company emphasizes the absence of advertising and any in-app purchases.

The app can work without a mobile Internet or Wi-Fi connection, which Netflix says makes it a convenient solution for long flights or trips, such as when you’re shopping. Children are known to be eager to interact with digital screens.

The company also announces the gradual expansion of the game library for the youngest users. At the time of launch, the platform had already received projects based on popular franchises. Among them is Playtime with Peppa Pig, a set of mini-games featuring Peppa and her friends. In addition, there is a game based on Sesame Street, where children can interact with Elmo, Big Bird, Shortcake, Oscar, and other famous characters. There is also a selection of mini-games, including a card memorization and dot connecting game.

The catalog also includes several games based on Dr. Seuss stories, as well as a racing game inspired by the Bad Dinosaurs show. In addition to games, users have access to other entertainment, including digital sticker sets and puzzles. All projects on the platform are designed exclusively for young children.

The Netflix Playground app is already available in the United States and many other regions of the world, with a global launch scheduled for April 28. At the same time, the main Netflix app continues to offer access to traditional video games, although the company’s gaming business has recently faced difficulties. In particular, in 2024, the company closed its AAA studio and removed a number of games from the platform.
