Euro NCAP, the European new car assessment program, has released the latest results of its vehicle safety tests. Under the updated 2026 testing regulations, three new Chinese-made models – the Aion UT, Geely E2 (known as the Xingyuan in the Chinese domestic market and as the EX2 in some other markets) and the Leapmotor B05 (known in China as the Lafa 5) – have earned the maximum five-star safety rating.
During the same test cycle, experts also evaluated the Cupra Raval. In its base trim with a standard set of safety features, this vehicle received 4 stars; but with the optional Safety Pack – which enhances active safety systems during low-speed maneuvers and when navigating intersections – the car achieved a 5-star rating.
Euro NCAP representatives emphasized that cars manufactured in China now account for 7% of total new car sales in the European Union and nearly 10% of the UK market. Since 2021, the number of Chinese models submitted for Euro NCAP crash tests has increased nearly tenfold, reflecting these brands’ dedicated efforts to meet the high safety standards expected by European consumers.
According to Euro NCAP Program Director Dr. Aleda Williams, the latest results convincingly demonstrate that Chinese automakers continue to work diligently to achieve the high standards that are a priority for consumers in Europe.
The Aion UT scored 66% for driver safety, 74% for collision avoidance, 91% for occupant protection in a crash, and 88% for post-crash safety, earning an overall 5-star rating. The Geely E2 scored 79% for driving safety, 72% for collision prevention, 86% for crash protection, and 95% for post-crash measures, earning an overall 5-star rating. The Leapmotor B05 scored 66% for driver safety, 77% for collision avoidance, 92% for protection during a collision, and 89% for post-crash safety, earning it an overall 5-star rating.
The standard-equipment Cupra Raval scored 58% for driver safety, 66% for collision avoidance, 91% for crash protection, and 95% for post-crash safety, earning 4 stars. The Cupra Raval model with the optional Safety Pack achieved 72% for driving safety, 77% for collision prevention, 91% for crash protection, and 95% for post-crash safety, earning an overall 5-star rating.
The Aion UT proved to be a balanced and versatile vehicle. However, experts noted that control of driving functions relies too heavily on the central touchscreen, and the speed limit recognition system has an accuracy rate of 68%. In addition, this car lacks a feature that alerts drivers to the presence of children in the cabin. The Geely E2, which is the best-selling car in China, impressed experts with its retention of physical controls and the inclusion of a standard child detection system. Although the AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) system sometimes performed inconsistently, the vehicle ensures a high level of safety in most test categories.
The Leapmotor B05 proved to be the best in terms of occupant protection during collisions, earning the maximum number of points in side-impact tests against a barrier and a pole. Despite the AEB system’s exemplary performance, the car lacks an adaptive restraint system for passengers of different body types and requires more physical switches to control the multimedia system.
