OpenAI plans to create its own social network without bots

OpenAI is considering launching its own social network focused on fighting bots and the so-called “dead Internet” phenomenon. According to Forbes, Sam Altman’s strategic idea is to create a platform that will be accessible only to real people, not automated accounts.

Sources familiar with the project say that the app is currently in the early stages of development. A small team of less than 10 people is working on it. The company is testing the concept of a social network based on mandatory identity verification.

The key element of the platform will be biometric verification, which will confirm that each account belongs to a real person. According to preliminary information, OpenAI is considering the integration of identity verification technologies based on Apple’s Face ID or the World Orb system.

It is expected that users will be able to use OpenAI tools, such as Sora and ChatGPT, directly within the platform to create AI-generated images and videos. This could turn the new social network into a space where content is created and verified using AI technologies.

The company has not yet announced any launch dates. Internal sources note that the project concept may change during the development process. OpenAI has also refrained from officially commenting on the existence or details of this product.

The problem of bots on social media remains acute. In 2025, Elon Musk announced the removal of 1.7 million bot accounts, but automated profiles continue to actively influence online discussions. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has also previously drawn attention to the growth of “synthetic content” in the digital space.
