Pixelpaw Labs has unveiled its first product, the Phase gaming mouse, which can transform into two parts and turn into a joystick-style controller for the Nintendo Switch. This device is designed as a universal gadget that combines the functions of a mouse, controller, and mobile gamepad. The Phase has magnetic connections and pin connectors that allow the two parts to be combined into a standard gaming mouse. Due to this design, it was not possible to place a classic scroll wheel, so Pixelpaw Labs offered a touch surface on the left mouse button that responds to scrolling swipes.

In mouse mode, Phase is equipped with a 16000 DPI sensor and supports connection both wirelessly and via USB-C cable. A pairing button allows Phase to connect up to three devices simultaneously.

When the two parts are separated, the device turns into a controller with a D-pad, buttons, joysticks, and shoulder buttons – a design reminiscent of Nintendo. The Layers system allows you to customize secondary functions for each button, and users can individually change the control assignment.

Phase supports connection to devices via Bluetooth or via the included 2.4GHz receiver, which provides a 1000 Hz sampling rate. The device is compatible with Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux. In addition, a Phase Grip accessory is being developed that allows the controller to be attached to a smartphone for mobile gaming.
Pixelpaw Labs plans to launch Phase via the Kickstarter platform. The price is $159, and with the Phase Grip – $188. Pre-booking is offered for $20 with the possibility to get a 15% discount during the campaign launch. Despite the innovation of the concept, the high price may be an obstacle, as the device’s versatility does not guarantee an advantage over cheaper accessories.
