The news feed has finally been updated with the long-awaited trailer for the film about OpenAI’s CEO, aptly titled *Artificial*. Andrew Garfield stars in the lead role, and Luca Guadagnino, known for films such as *Call Me by Your Name*, *The Brothers* and the *Suspiria* remake, is in the director’s chair.
The trailer makes a rather unsettling impression, resembling a dark horror film more than a classic biopic. An unsettling soundtrack plays as Garfield attempts to mimic Altman’s mannerisms as closely as possible while extolling the virtues of AI. He also compares the technology to Pandora’s box, warning of the inevitable downfall of nations and the collapse of entire industries.
The protagonist accompanies his musings on the inevitability of the future with a walk past a room containing an arsenal of weapons in some kind of bunker. The video concludes by showing viewers scenes of triumph and moments where the character literally shouts into the void. It looks quite captivating.
The plot of *Artificial* covers events in 2023, when a top executive was unexpectedly fired but reinstated at OpenAI just five days later. The theatrical release is scheduled for December 25 – exactly three years after the real-life drama that inspired the screenplay. That’s a pretty fast production pace. In addition to Garfield, the film stars Monica Barbaro, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman, and Mark Rylance.
Until the very last moment, there were doubts about whether this film would make it to the big screen. Initially, Amazon MGM was supposed to handle distribution, but the company pulled out of the project after investing $50 billion in OpenAI. At that point, studio representatives stated that it would be better to entrust the release to another team. Attempts to find a partner among Netflix, A24, and Focus were unsuccessful, and only Neon ultimately signed the contract.
