The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was officially announced during the June Nintendo Direct, but little was known about the game other than that it is expected to be released later this year. However, during the recent The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct event, not only was the exact release date of the remake revealed, but also how the developers plan to recreate one of the most beloved games of all time on a modern console.

As expected, the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be released in November – the same month that GTA VI is set to launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, the remake will beat Rockstar Games’ title by two weeks – it will be available worldwide on the Nintendo Switch 2 starting November 5.

In addition, on October 29, Nintendo will release a special edition of the Switch 2 console, designed after the Triforce artifact, making it a pretty tempting purchase for all fans of the series. Even if, unfortunately, it won’t include a copy of the game right away. At the same time, the company will release a special edition Pro Controller and a carrying case.
During the event, series producer Eiji Aonuma showed more footage from the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, confirming some of the game’s features. As expected, the remake will be extremely faithful to the original: the development team has strived to strike a balance between nostalgia and innovation, starting with the visuals. The Kingdom of Hyrule, the Field, the Kokiri Forest, and other locations will look stunning in the new version.
But the remake will include some new features that weren’t in the original game. Freed from the limitations of the Nintendo 64 and its controller, the developers were able to add a jump button instead of automatic jumps, as well as camera controls. Link will also be able to swim and dive to retrieve underwater treasures, and Navi will assist him during battles with enemies by revealing strategies. The combat system is largely based on the original, but the actions themselves will be more dynamic, and the effects during battles will make attacks more spectacular.

The innovations don’t end there. In the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, dialogues have been expanded to better develop the NPCs, and locations have become larger. Additionally, there will be new minigames in Hyrule, and the time of day will no longer pause inside towns.

Of course, the iconic ocarina will also return in the remake, albeit with some changes. In addition to using the controller to play melodies and activate their special effects, you’ll be able to use the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone to hum melodies or even play them on a replica of the ocarina, which will be released soon.
The Zelda Notes app, which was released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, will also be compatible with the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
Given how faithful the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is to the original, there’s no doubt that fans of the series will love it. So there’s every chance that this game will be the icing on the cake of a fantastic year for the Nintendo Switch 2.
