Samsung launches the world’s first AI refrigerator with integrated artificial intelligence Google Gemini. Thanks to advanced algorithms, the device is able to recognize a much wider range of foods than previous Samsung refrigerator models, create recipes and act as a smart kitchen assistant for every member of the family.

Google Gemini is an artificial intelligence that understands images, text, and context. In Samsung refrigerators, it works together with the SmartThings app, which is used by more than 430 million people worldwide.

The Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub is the first refrigerator to use Gemini to help users navigate through the refrigerator’s contents and select food. Whereas previous models could only recognize a limited number of products, Gemini identifies food labels, packaging, and container contents, giving users a more complete picture of the products available. In addition, the refrigerator can be controlled by voice commands, such as opening or closing the door, which is especially convenient when hands are busy, dirty or wet during cooking. Additionally, the door can be opened with a light tap.

According to Saskia Kivi, Head of Communications at Samsung Eesti, the integration of Gemini is an important step towards more efficient cooking, as artificial intelligence analyzes the user’s daily habits and makes recommendations based on them. “The refrigerator is one of the most frequently used devices in the home, but it remains quite passive. Gemini completely changes its role. The device understands what products you have at home and what your habits are. It helps you make everyday decisions, such as meal planning and reducing food waste,” said Kiwi.

In addition to product recognition and recipe recommendations, Samsung’s AI refrigerator is equipped with AI Precise Cooling technology. It studies user behavioral patterns, analyzes when and for how long the door is opened, distinguishes between night and day use, and weekend behavior. Based on this data, cooling is adjusted to ensure the most efficient storage of food and energy savings.
