The public was treated to the first still from an unconventional animated adaptation of Tobe Hooper’s classic horror film *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre*, released in 1974. Dark Sky Films and Exurbia Films have teamed up to produce this bold film, with its premiere scheduled for 2027.

The new project is positioned as a unique reimagining of the original source material, though the team has completely rejected the concept of a standard retelling of events using traditional animation techniques. The creators are relying on the technique of frame-by-frame redrawing (rotoscoping). This technique will help meticulously recreate on screen the original movement, the cast’s performances, and the iconic mise-en-scène from Hooper’s masterpiece to the screen, while at the same time imbuing the chilling story with a fundamentally different artistic aesthetic and a fresh visual presentation.
Director Paul Beck, who gained fame for his work on the acclaimed animated film *The Blur*, has been entrusted with leading the project. The details of this new adaptation have not yet been disclosed, but it will be based on the classic plot of the original.
As a reminder, the original’s plot centers on a young girl and her companions who set out on a journey to Texas to visit her grandfather’s grave. The travelers find themselves at an abandoned family homestead, where they are ambushed by a ruthless killer nicknamed “Leatherface” and his inhuman, cannibalistic relatives.
The legendary series is currently experiencing a period of rapid revival. Alongside the animated film, production is underway on another large-scale project: Carrie Barker, director of the thriller *Obsession*, is creating her own artistic reimagining for the renowned independent film studio A24. Both premieres aim to introduce this classic horror masterpiece to a new audience by combining unconventional visual techniques with a modern take on the iconic Texas horror film.
