The Military Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a new successful operation – sailors destroyed the Russian FSB’s 2nd-class border patrol vessel “Izumrud.” According to the Ukrainian military, the vessel was struck by a Sargan-3000 unmanned maritime system.

At the time of the attack, the vessel was located near Novorossiysk. A post on the official Facebook page of the Ukrainian Navy states that the strike resulted in fatalities and injuries among the ship’s crew.

Military officials recalled that it was the ship “Izumrud” that took part in the attack on Ukrainian Navy vessels in the Kerch Strait – an incident that occurred on November 25, 2018. At that time, Ukrainian Navy ships – specifically the harbor tug “Yani Kapu” and the gunboats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” – were transiting from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov.

In the area of the Kerch Strait, they were stopped by a Russian tanker that blocked the passage under the Kerch Bridge, built by the occupying authorities. The occupiers’ ships rammed the tugboat “Yani Kapu,” and outside the 12-mile zone, the accompanying Ukrainian gunboats came under fire. After that, the Russians seized all three Ukrainian vessels, resulting in the capture of 24 sailors, 6 of whom were wounded. “Retribution is inevitable. To be continued…,” the Ukrainian Navy added in a Facebook post.
The patrol ship “Izumrud” was launched in 2014; ships of this class can be classified as small corvettes. It was equipped with a helicopter pad, was 62.5 meters long, had a displacement of approximately 630–750 metric tons, and could reach a maximum speed of 27 knots.
