Mercedes-Benz unveiled the updated GLA in all-electric and hybrid versions, featuring support for Gemini and ChatGPT and a range of up to 656,61 km.

Mercedes-Benz has significantly upgraded its most compact crossover. The automaker has unveiled the restyled 2028 GLA, which serves as the brand’s entry-level compact SUV and will now be available in all-electric and hybrid versions. Following the recently updated CLA sedan, the GLA crossover is now also built on Mercedes-Benz’s advanced MMA platform.
The electric lineup consists of two trim levels, with the differences between them largely depending on driving style. The GLA250+ variant is equipped with a single electric motor producing 268 k. s., with the primary focus on maximum range rather than top speed. The GLA350 version features two motors for all-wheel drive, delivers 349 k. s. of power, and accelerates to 96.56 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.
Both electric models are equipped with an 85 kWh battery pack and Mercedes-Benz’s 800-volt architecture. Peak charging power reaches 320 kW, allowing the range to be extended by more than 257.5 km in just a few minutes. According to the European WLTP cycle, Mercedes-Benz estimates the GLA250+’s range at up to 656.61 km, although more realistic U.S. estimates are around 563.27 km.
If a fully electric vehicle isn’t right for you, a hybrid version will be available shortly in either the front-wheel-drive GLA220 or the all-wheel-drive GLA250 variants. Both models use a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, mirroring the CLA’s hybrid setup. However, the exact power figures for the hybrids have not yet been disclosed. In addition, the GLA has a wheelbase that’s been noticeably increased by 0.06 m and is 0.15 m longer, which has added more interior space.
Inside, the cabin and instrument panel have almost entirely transitioned to a digital format. The optional Superscreen package combines a 14-inch passenger screen, a central touchscreen of the same size, and a 10.3-inch instrument cluster for the driver. The MBUX virtual assistant interacts with Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT, continuing the interactive AI concept that Mercedes-Benz first demonstrated with the use of Gemini in the CLA model.
According to an article in Car and Driver, the new model is also equipped with a camera-based “transparent hood” system to view obstacles under the wheels and an optional Sky Control roof that can be dimmed in separate sections and illuminated by 172 tiny stars.
