The Xiaomi MIX series has been without updates since the release of the MIX 4 in 2021, but this pause is coming to an end. An analysis of the internal Mi Code code revealed a device codenamed “Hongkong” and model number Q5, which directly points to the Xiaomi MIX 5. This information was further confirmed by Android Headlines. The letter Q in this system means a release in 2026, while the number 5 is consistent with the historical logic of the MIX series naming.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor is expected to be used, which corresponds to the level of the 2026 Q-series flagships. It is also expected to use the in-screen front camera technology, which has reportedly already reached a level suitable for mass production. As a result, the device should have a display without notches and visible camera elements.
A separate mention is made of the magnetic lens system, the mass production of which began in February 2026, and which may debut in the MIX 5, providing new focusing capabilities. Internal data also indicates a global launch, which is a change in strategy, as MIX 4 was sold exclusively in China.
The logic of the naming clearly confirms the Q5’s connection to MIX 5. In Xiaomi’s internal system, a letter indicates the year of release, and Q corresponds to 2026. The digital index has historically been correlated with specific lines. For example, the MIX 2 and MIX 2S used the D5 and D5X designations, while the MIX 3 and its 5G version were given the E5 and E5G designations. At the same time, the index 8 was redistributed for the Flip line, where MIX Flip 3 is designated P8. This makes the Q5 the logical and only candidate for the mainstream next-generation MIX model. The codename “Hongkong” also has an internal meaning, as it was previously used for high-priority flagship research projects rather than standard devices.
The MIX series has traditionally been a platform for introducing experimental technologies, and MIX 5 continues this concept. We are talking about two key developments that have been in the works for several years. The first is the under-screen camera, which hides the front-facing module under the display. In previous implementations, such as the MIX 4 and Fold series, there were problems with image quality and noticeable graininess. If the new version provides a completely invisible integration without loss of quality, it will be the first example of a truly bezel-less smartphone in the mass segment.
The second technology is a magnetic lens, which uses magnetic elements to control focusing and stabilization instead of traditional motorized mechanisms. The start of mass production in February 2026 is in line with the expected launch of the device at the end of the year.
It should be clarified that MIX 5 is not related to MIX Fold 5, as they are different products. The latter is codenamed “lhasa” and modeled Q18, belongs to the folding smartphone format with a book design and is equipped with a proprietary Xring O3 chip. Its release in China is expected around August 2026. The MIX 5, on the other hand, remains a classic monoblock smartphone and is positioned as an experimental flagship without a folding mechanism, which is in line with the original ideology of the series. The exact release date within 2026 has not yet been determined.
