Google has published physical drawings of its new Fitbit Air fitness tracker so that anyone, from independent designers and craftsmen to accessory manufacturers, can create their own straps and other compatible solutions for it. The company said that certified accessories will be able to receive the official Made for Google mark, which will confirm that the products meet the compatibility requirements and performance standards of the Fitbit Air.

The published three-page PDF document contains detailed two-dimensional CAD drawings with the exact dimensions of the tracker capsule and the mount for the Performance Loop Band. The engineers determined the length of the main module at 33.5 mm and the width at 14.36 mm. The documentation indicates that the fixation force should be from 10 to 25 Newtons, while to detach the module, it is necessary to apply from 12 to 45 Newtons. This is necessary to securely hold the tracker during active movement.

The documentation emphasizes that the optical sensors and SpO2 sensor should remain fully exposed to ensure constant contact with the skin. Google recommends designing the straps in such a way that a stable pressure of at least 35 mmHg, or 0.68 psi, is maintained in the sensor area. This is necessary for accurate heart rate measurement during physical activity.
