I’ll probably be right in saying that a rotary hammer is one of the most essential tools around the house. I had been planning to buy one for a long time but kept postponing the purchase for no real reason. Eventually, I thought, “Enough is enough,” and picked up the PARKSIDE PBH 1050 D4. It’s one of the more common and widely purchased models on the market, with its main strength being a practical balance of price and capability. It’s not the most advanced tool available, but – spoiler – it has been more than sufficient for my needs. Let’s go through everything step by step.

Package and Price
The rotary hammer arrived in a branded box with the tool stored inside a plastic carrying case. The case itself is sturdy and includes dedicated compartments for all accessories, which helps keep everything organized and prevents items from getting misplaced.
Inside the case, you’ll find the rotary hammer itself, three SDS drill bits (Ø 6/8/10 × 150 mm), a pointed chisel (250 mm), a flat chisel (250 mm), a depth gauge, 50 g of lubricant, an additional chuck for standard-shank drill bits, and even a small white cloth. The user manual is stored in a separate pocket.
This basic kit is sufficient for general household tasks and does not require purchasing extra accessories for light-duty work, which is a practical advantage.
As for the price, the tool costs around $95 depending on the configuration. For this class of equipment, the pricing is reasonable.
PARKSIDE PBH 1050 D4 design
Visually, the PBH 1050 D4 rotary hammer largely follows the standard design conventions of similar tools. It features the brand’s characteristic black, green, and red color scheme, with an engraved logo on the side.

The housing is made of impact-resistant plastic, while the gearbox section is constructed from a metal alloy.

On the left side of the front section, there is a central switch for selecting the operating modes.
The switch is large and features a secure locking mechanism to prevent accidental rotation. There are four operating modes:
- Drilling without impact
- Impact drilling with the hammer mechanism engaged
- Hammering only (chiseling without rotation)
- Chisel adjustment (stepless)
The main handle is made of impact-resistant plastic with rubber inserts, providing a secure grip even during vibration. The trigger is located on the handle, along with a lock-on button for more comfortable operation during extended drilling or chiseling.

Slightly above, there is a reverse switch, allowing convenient mode changes without interrupting work.
At the front of the main handle, a speed selector is located, offering six speed settings in this model.
The auxiliary handle is also rubberized, providing a firm grip and enhancing safety and comfort. It can be easily rotated and locked into the desired position, and the depth gauge is attached to this handle.
Ventilation slots are located on the sides and rear of the housing, helping to cool the motor and prevent overheating during extended use.

At the front, there is a chuck for inserting drill bits and chisels. They lock automatically – simply insert them until a click is heard. The process is intuitive, and the functionality is similar to that of other rotary hammer models.

The assembly quality of the rotary hammer is solid. All components fit tightly without any play. The buttons are securely mounted and provide clear feedback, while the trigger allows smooth speed control. No issues were observed during use.
Practical experience
Let’s talk a little about how I use my hammer drill in action.

I started my test with the hammer-only mode (chiseling). The tool performed very well. It is suitable for tasks such as removing tiles, stripping plaster, or leveling surfaces. During extended use, the housing warms up slightly, which is typical for rotary hammers in this segment, so it’s advisable to take breaks.
Drilling was handled efficiently as well, requiring no excessive effort and without noticeable speed loss. Vibration is present during operation but remains moderate. The tool feels relatively stable in hand due to its weight and the ergonomic handle design. The cable is approximately 4 meters long, which is a practical advantage and adds to ease of use.
When using a standard chuck for drilling metal or wood, the rotary hammer performs adequately, but it doesn’t seem to fully showcase its capabilities in this area. Its primary function is more oriented toward drilling in masonry and chiseling. Nevertheless, for typical household tasks, it should be more than sufficient.
Conclusions
Overall, the PARKSIDE PBH 1050 D4 rotary hammer proves to be a reliable tool. It handles most household tasks efficiently and is particularly suited for drilling in masonry and chiseling. The model is reasonably priced, well-constructed, and operates consistently without issues. Based on its performance and build quality, it meets expectations for its category.
