KIVI 32F750NB review: Choosing a TV for the children’s room

-

One day or another, parents face the decision to equip their children’s room with a TV. After all, a large screen means a lot. Unlike a smartphone or an old laptop, which is no longer usable and makes no sense to sell, but still has YouTube, so it is okay for the child to enjoy cartoons. Of course, in 2023, it’s exclusively about Smart TV, because television is not of much use without the support of streaming services as well as YouTube. Plus, you can play simple games on it, which can also keep your child entertained. So now I want to share my experience of picking up a TV for the children’s room and why KIVI 32F750NB is my choice.

Define the diagonal

This is probably the very first question you need to answer. Usually, the diagonal is determined by the viewing distance. Certainly, you can find all sorts of formulas on the Internet that are supposed to help you determine the size of your TV. The most popular one is that the optimal distance is 2.5 diagonals of the screen. According to this formula, a 43-inch TV should be viewed from 2.5 metres away, but keep in mind that this figure is only a guideline.

However, when choosing a diagonal, the type of installation is also important – whether you hang the TV on a wall bracket or place it on a table or pedestal. For wall mounting and in a fairly spacious room, you can choose a diagonal of 40 inches or more, but for desktop placement in a children’s room, it would be excessive and uncomfortable, so up to 32 inches is just the right size.

Screen features

When it comes to the type of matrix, it doesn’t play the same decisive role as it used to. Since we are talking about modern screens, not those produced around 10 years ago, then today the visual difference between TN and IPS is not so pronounced and you can easily choose any of them. Well, if your budget is not limited, you can choose OLED and get the best possible picture. But it’s probably not really important for a child.

As for the resolution, though, there is a difference. It makes no sense to consider HD in 2023, so Full HD is the optimal resolution for a TV. It is true for all models up to 40 inches. But for 43-inch TVs and larger, Full HD is no longer offered – only 4K, so there’s no alternative.

What a modern TV set for a children’s room should have

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Chromecast or Miracast are an absolute must-have for a modern TV. Everything is clear with Wi-Fi: No internet connection means no TV. Bluetooth, in turn, allows you to connect external devices (headphones or perhaps a keyboard and mouse), and Chromecast or Miracast support means you can wirelessly display images from your smartphone or laptop on your TV. Besides, a voice control option would be useful for quick search and switching between applications.

As for connectors, you need a USB, HDMI, and audio jack to connect flash drives, a laptop, or headphones by wire. You should also pay attention to the flash memory capacity so as to install apps seamlessly from the store, and the OS version – the more up to date the better the performance.

Another thing I would recommend paying attention is the sound. Obviously, it’s impossible to put a serious audio system in a thin case, but your child doesn’t need it. But to prevent the TV from blaring in other rooms when you can’t make out words in the children’s one is very important.

Why KIVI 32F750NB is my choice

I believe that for the average children’s room, the optimal diagonal is 32 inches, especially for a desktop placement like I have. Smaller ones would be uncomfortable, and larger ones are better suited for wall mounting. So I chose among 32-inch models and settled on KIVI 32F750NB.

To begin with, I’m already familiar with the company’s devices, and their quality is beyond doubt. KIVI offers great solutions for the money (especially if you’re already jaw-droppingly impressed with Xiaomi) and not just for the kids’ room.

KIVI 32F750NB

KIVI 32F750NB appeared to me as the best choice. It’s a recent model (released at the end of 2022) and features exactly what I had in mind. First of all, this device has slim bezels and a convenient stand for table placement. It looks nice, provides good stability and takes up little space, which is definitely a plus.

Secondly, compared to the brand’s other 32-inch models (32H550NB and 32H740NB), KIVI 32F750NB has Full HD resolution, rather than HD. It also comes with Wi-Fi 5, Chromecast and Bluetooth, Google Assistant support, two USB-A, three HDMI and, of course, LAN and a 3.5 mm audio jack for a «plan B».

The screen offers good viewing angles, nice colour reproduction, and lots of settings to customise the picture for the child (including gamma, temperature, and blue light reduction). I also like that Direct LED (over the entire area), not Edge LED (only around the perimeter), is used for screen backlighting.

There is 8 GB of storage, which is more than enough. The OS is Android TV 11. Obviously, it’s not the latest version, but it’s fast, with lots of settings and easy to use, even for a child. Besides, it has very pleasant sound without mumbling – the inscription «Sound by JVC» and Dolby Digital support confirm that. The price was also a big draw, because today the average price for KIVI 32F750NB is about UAH 9,499 ($240), so you can afford it.
