The design of most traditional gaming chairs rarely fits well into a typical interior, while high-quality office chairs with similar functionality often come with an unreasonable price tag. When I received the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric gaming chair for review, I honestly didn’t expect much of a “wow” factor. However, it turned out to be one of the most balanced and well-priced options in its category, offering an excellent price-to-performance ratio.

Positioning
The first positive aspect is the price. While the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric is not a budget option, it belongs to the mid-range category of gaming chairs. However, its real-world characteristics – not just the specifications on paper – show that the ~$300 price tag is entirely justified. Offering several features typically found in flagship models, it delivers strong functionality for the cost. In short, the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric is priced exactly as its quality and design merit.
Packaging and assembly
The overall setup follows standard conventions, but a few details stand out. The chair comes in typical packaging for its class, with all components neatly arranged and well-protected. The assembly manual is clear and straightforward, so putting it together shouldn’t cause any difficulties.
One aspect worth highlighting is the assembly process itself. I’ve dealt with both budget and high-end chairs from various brands, and almost every time there’s been some issue with tightening one or more bolts. For example, misaligned holes between the seat and armrest often turn the process into a frustrating experience. In some cases, overly thick side padding on the backrest made it impossible to reach the threads without pressing down firmly on the armrest to align the parts. The worst experience I’ve had was with an expensive office chair where three bolts simply spun freely in their threads, making it impossible to tighten them fully.
Why mention all this? Because assembling the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric was completely effortless. I put it together without any stress, and there wasn’t even a hint of difficulty during the process.
Everything fits perfectly – the bolts seemed to fall into place on their own. Before I knew it, the chair was fully assembled, and I was already testing its comfort and functionality. But let’s start with the design.

HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric Design
The main appeal lies in its understated minimalism. This chair looks equally appropriate behind a gaming desk or in an office setting.
Of course, if you’re not a fan of fabric upholstery, this model may not be for you. Personally, however, I prefer high-quality fabric – such as the one used here – over synthetic leather, which often starts to crack over time, especially in areas that experience the most stress.

The chair doesn’t draw unnecessary attention in the interior – it blends in naturally, as if it has always been part of the space. It makes little difference whether you choose the black or gray version of the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric; neither will create any visual clutter or distraction.
A special mention goes to the pillows – not just for their inclusion, but for how they’re attached. There are no straps or elastic bands for fixation; instead, they use magnets. This design choice significantly enhances the chair’s overall aesthetics.
Functional features
The fully steel frame with protective coating and CloudTouch fabric sounds impressive on paper, but how does it perform in real use? First, the chair never feels flimsy or weak in any area. At 86 kg, I feel completely secure in any seating position. Second, this type of fabric is easy to clean, highly durable, and pleasant to the touch. It resists wear over long periods and doesn’t create a “sweaty” feeling during hot weather or intense gaming sessions – in other words, it stays comfortable without overheating.

Here’s what I particularly liked, beyond the quality of the main materials:
Magnetic pillows: Honestly, I expected them to slip or hold poorly, but they stay firmly in place. Adjusting their position takes just seconds, and they hold remarkably well.
Backrest tilt: This may not matter to everyone, but I often move from a chair to the sofa to give my back a break while checking messages. With this chair, I don’t need to move – I can simply recline fully. The backrest angle of the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric allows this comfortably.
Padding: I spent five hours seated without getting up to test how my lower back and glutes would feel. Verdict: excellent comfort throughout.
Rocking function: Thanks to the sturdy, well-built frame, the chair allows for smooth rocking, similar to that of heavy, expensive office chairs. This mechanism is functional, not just for show.
Armrests: While their shape is standard, the highly flexible adjustment allowed me to set them to my height and seating position in just a few movements. Properly positioned armrests significantly affect how quickly you feel fatigued while sitting.
By the way, the HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric includes an NFC Custom TAG system. I’ve never used NFC tags and don’t plan to, so their presence doesn’t make a difference for me. However, if this functionality is important to you, it’s available.

Drawbacks
I tested the chair in all possible positions, examined it from every angle, and felt every detail to look for flaws. I rocked it backward, forward, left, and right, even bounced lightly while seated, and thoroughly checked all mechanisms for responsiveness, sticking, or failure. It’s hard to believe everything could be this well-made. Still, I did find one minor drawback. When fully reclined – a position I really enjoyed – there’s no high-quality extendable footrest. I realized that if the chair had a pull-out leg support, it would elevate the experience even further.
Conclusions
When you first see this chair in an online store, alongside its ~$300 price tag, it’s natural to feel a mix of skepticism – something like, “What exactly am I paying for?” But believe me, that initial impression is very misleading.

The HATOR Darkside 3 Pro fabric may not stand out compared to flashy, colorful gaming chairs, but that’s arguably its strength. I’m not a fan of the phrase “best value for money,” yet in this case, it genuinely applies – and the cat approves.
