A dryer is a valuable household appliance that saves time – especially during damp seasons when laundry doesn’t dry well on the balcony or indoors. However, to ensure it runs smoothly for years, regular maintenance is essential.

Experts at Rozetka have put together seven simple but effective tips to help extend the lifespan of your dryer.
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
Clean the filters after each use
Let’s start with the filters. The lint filter, usually located in the door, should be cleaned after every use. Simply remove it, gently brush off the lint by hand or with a soft brush, and once a month, wash it under running water and let it dry thoroughly. The condensation filter, which traps moisture, should be cleaned about once a month. If it’s heavily soiled, you can soak it in soapy water for a few hours before rinsing.
Clean the drum regularly
The drum also requires regular care. Once a month, wipe it down with a damp, soft cloth or run a short cycle using a small amount of white vinegar. This helps remove lingering odors, dust, and fabric particles.

If you notice any unpleasant odors, don’t delay – treat the drum right away to prevent the smell from transferring to your laundry.
Monitor the ventilation system
The ventilation system is equally important. Check that the vent hose isn’t clogged or bent behind the machine – air needs to flow freely outside. Blockages or restricted moisture release can cause the unit to overheat and wear out faster.
Clean the condensation chamber
For models with condensation technology, it’s a good idea to periodically open and clean the condensation chamber. A buildup of condensate film can reduce the dryer’s efficiency.

Before cleaning, make sure to unplug the dryer. Use only a soft cloth and warm soapy water – avoid any harsh chemicals.
Take care of the temperature sensor
The temperature sensor is another crucial component that’s often overlooked. Dust buildup can cause it to send incorrect signals, leading to uneven drying. Simply wipe it gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth – no heavy pressure needed.
Caring for the exterior
Don’t forget about the exterior of your dryer. Wipe the machine’s surface once a week with a soft cloth – it’s a simple yet important step in overall maintenance. Pay special attention to the back panel, where dust tends to accumulate most often.
Do not overload the machine
Avoid overloading your dryer. Clothes need space for proper air circulation; otherwise, they won’t dry evenly. Also, never place items labeled “hand wash only” in the dryer – they could get damaged.

Periodically check the power cord for any signs of damage. If the dryer starts acting strangely or programs begin to freeze, it’s best to contact a specialist right away.
Don’t do it this way! Mistakes that damage the tumble dryer:
- Do not dry clothes with residues of flammable substances (petrol, acetone, alcohol, varnish, solvents) – this may cause a fire.
- Do not place the tumble dryer in a room without ventilation – this impairs moisture removal and may cause it to overheat.
- Do not cover the dryer with cloths or film – ventilation must be free.
- Do not leave the machine unattended for long periods of time or when you leave the house – there is a risk of short circuit or overheating.
- Do not dry laundry with metal objects (coins, clasps, laundry bones) – they can damage the drum or cause a spark.
- Do not connect the tumble dryer to an extension cord – this is dangerous and requires a separate earthed connection.
- Do not ignore strange noises, smells or malfunctions – these are signs of malfunctions that need to be addressed.
- Do not wash the electronic panel with large amounts of water or aggressive agents – there is a risk of a short circuit.
- Do not disassemble the dryer yourself without experience – there are live parts inside even after it has been switched off.

Regular, proper maintenance is key to extending the life of any appliance – and dryers are no exception. To keep a dryer running efficiently over the long term, it needs consistent cleaning and care. The process isn’t complicated, but it does require a routine. A small investment of time goes a long way in ensuring your laundry comes out dry, soft, and safe to wear.
