SAIC-GM has officially unveiled the new Buick Electra E7 hybrid crossover, which features an extremely long combined range of up to 1600 km on a single charge and a full tank. The model uses a hybrid powertrain and is positioned to address lingering concerns about the range of electrified vehicles.

The Electra E7 is based on the SAIC-GM True Dragon Plug-in Hybrid Pro platform, which combines a 1.5-liter gasoline internal combustion engine, which works primarily as a generator, with a 165 kW (about 210 hp) electric motor and a lithium-iron-phosphate battery. According to the manufacturer, the car can travel up to 210 km on electric power alone, after which the internal combustion engine comes into play, providing much greater overall autonomy.

In real-world conditions, this means that most daily trips can be made without using fuel, provided that regular nighttime charging is carried out. At the same time, during long trips, the driver does not need to carefully plan routes or stops for recharging, which remains one of the key advantages of hybrid models compared to all-electric cars.

Along with the publication of the first official images, SAIC-GM also confirmed that the Buick Electra E7 will receive a modern semi-autonomous ADAS driver assistance system based on the Momenta R6 machine learning model. A similar system previously debuted on the Electra L7 sedan, introduced at the end of last year. It uses a combination of radar and LiDAR sensors integrated into a module above the windshield to provide a wide view of the road situation ahead of the car.

The new model pays special attention to comfort. According to CarNewsChina, the Electra E7 is equipped with an active suspension with a preventive RTD system and continuously variable stiffness control. The suspension is capable of analyzing the road surface up to 500 times per second and adapting the shock absorbers in real time. The system can detect bumps, such as speed bumps or manholes, up to 20 meters away, which allows the suspension to be prepared before hitting an obstacle and improve the ride.

The Buick Electra E7 demonstrates SAIC-GM’s commitment to combining long-range autonomy, electric mobility for everyday travel, and modern comfort and safety systems in one vehicle. The model is seen as an important element of the Buick brand’s electrified strategy, primarily for the Chinese market, with potential for a wider presence in the future.
