After selling 32,759 cars in May, Xiaomi officially announced the launch of a new automotive sub-brand, Sky Nomad, registered in China as Xiaomi Pengcheng. Unlike the existing SU7 and YU7 models, the new brand is geared toward long-distance family trips, where the key criteria are space, comfort, and a long driving range without relying on charging stations. The subbrand was announced on July 8 with the launch of an advertising campaign in Chinese cities and the creation of a WeChat profile.

The brand’s first vehicle will be the full-size N90 SUV featuring EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) technology. The vehicle has a body length of 5.3 m and a wheelbase of 3.1 m. It will be available to buyers in five-seat and seven-seat interior configurations.

The technical specifications include a battery pack with a capacity of over 70 kWh, which provides up to 500 km of range on electric power alone. Once this range is exhausted, the onboard 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine kicks in. This engine functions exclusively as a generator to recharge the battery and has no direct connection to the wheels. Combining a full tank of fuel with a fully charged battery extends the total range to over 1,400 km, solving the problem of autonomy in remote regions.

The exterior of the N90 features massive rectangular headlights, a trapezoidal air intake, a high hood, retractable side steps, and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. The vehicle’s dimensions place it in the class of full-size off-road crossovers.

The creation of the Sky Nomad series is driven by market demand. Previous Xiaomi models were designed for high-speed and urban driving, as evidenced by the records set by the SU7 Ultra sedan and the YU7 GT autonomous coupe-crossover at the Nürburgring. However, such specifications are not suitable for extended family road trips with luggage, where capacity and independence from high-speed charging stations are critical.

The launch of the new lineup demonstrates Xiaomi’s transformation into a full-fledged, diversified automaker that now produces sports sedans, city crossovers, and spacious family hybrids. Currently, the company’s monthly deliveries in China total nearly 33,000 vehicles.

Prices for the N90 have not yet been finalized. Due to the use of a large battery, a LiDAR system, and more sophisticated features, the final cost of the SUV will be higher than the starting price of the YU7 crossover. The official market debut and the announcement of price lists are scheduled for late 2026.
