Apple’s long-awaited global update to its mobile platform is set to be released next week, covering a wide range of compatible devices. The Cupertino-based company has officially confirmed that iOS 27 is scheduled for release on September 14. Owners of supported smartphones will be able to update their devices to the latest software version, which will feature a completely redesigned interface and a host of useful system features.
The range of devices receiving the update spans several generations – from the iPhone 11 lineup all the way to the latest models on the market. The list of compatible models includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 16, iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone 11 series, as well as the second-generation iPhone SE. The software will be available through the standard “Wireless Updates” section in the phone’s system settings.
In addition to noticeable visual changes, the updated voice assistant is set to be the platform’s main highlight. Apple will integrate its own core models into the assistant alongside technologies from Google, which will allow it to better understand complex conversational queries and maintain context during lengthy dialogs. In addition, the assistant will become a standalone app, where users can conveniently review their conversation history.
However, full device compatibility does not guarantee access to absolutely all new features. Some of the advanced AI-based features will require more powerful hardware, which means owners of slightly older models may only get a basic experience when interacting with the updated assistant.
The launch of the mobile platform will take place alongside other ecosystem releases. Apple is preparing to release iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27, which will be available for download on the same day – September 14. The new operating system will come pre-installed on the newly announced iPhone 18 Pro series and iPhone Duo models.
