Recent changes within the Xbox division, initiated by new CEO Asha Sharma, have led not only to the closure of entire studios and teams within Microsoft’s gaming division, but also to a reevaluation of plans for future projects. According to preliminary reports, one of these projects is a new game set in the Fallout universe, which will once again be developed by Obsidian Entertainment – the studio that created Fallout: New Vegas.

In a major address to fans, Bethesda Game Studios officially confirmed the existence of this project and shared information about the future of its most famous game universes.

Bethesda announced that alongside the development of The Elder Scrolls VI – which is currently the studio’s top priority – Fallout 5 is also in development. This project has already moved into the pre-production phase. Both games are being built on the latest Creation Engine 3, which allows the teams to use shared tools and technologies for the development of these projects, as well as for Starfield.

“Despite having sold over 65 million copies, players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later, but we understand that the wait for a sequel has been very long,” the studio said in a statement regarding The Elder Scrolls series. “The next chapter is on its way. We’re on track, we really like how it’s shaping up, and we’re playing it every day.”

Bethesda also confirmed that two remasters – Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas – are in the works for players who want to replay the series’ most famous previous installments. Release dates have not yet been disclosed, but the studio hinted that “something special” is planned for Fallout’s 30th anniversary in 2027, and this time, Fallout Day will be celebrated live in Washington, D.C.

The mobile game Fallout Shelter, which has over 250 million players, will receive new seasons, and Fallout 76 will get the Raven Rock expansion next year, which serves as a prequel to Fallout 3. As for Fallout: New Vegas, the news that surfaced earlier this month has also been confirmed – Obsidian is returning to work on the series.

“The Wasteland continues to expand, and we’re once again joining forces with our longtime friends at Obsidian Entertainment,” the company stated. “We’re pleased to confirm that they’re working with us on a new project in the Fallout series. We’ll share more details on this later.” The studio did not reveal any details this time regarding the setting, engine, or estimated release date for the new project from the Fallout: New Vegas team.
