There are increasing concerns in the public space about the potential risks posed by artificial intelligence, particularly in the field of cybersecurity, where it can create new threat vectors. Against this backdrop, Anthropic has announced the launch of Project Glasswing, an initiative aimed at countering such challenges by protecting critical software from AI attacks.

Partners in the project include Amazon Web Services, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorganChase, Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks.

The initiative’s participants will use the Claude Mythos Preview model, which has not yet been officially released and is intended to be used universally, to strengthen their own security systems. Anthropic claims that this model has already identified thousands of vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers, including in all major operating systems and web browsers. The company emphasizes its intention to use its technologies for defense purposes to prevent the malicious use of AI that could cause serious damage to the economy and security.

Anthropic is among the companies that actively raise ethical issues in the field of artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, it refused to ease restrictions on its services for use by the Pentagon, which led to a response from the US Department of Defense, which assigned the company a supply chain risk status.

The launch of Project Glasswing can be an important step towards strengthening cybersecurity in the context of the spread of AI, but certain incidents have already occurred. In particular, in February, it was reported that the Claude model was used by a hacker to attack several government agencies in Mexico.
