Apple has unveiled a new generation of full-size wireless headphones, the AirPods Max 2. This is the first significant update to the model since its debut in 2020. Pre-orders will open on March 25, and sales are expected to start in early April.
The appearance of the new product is almost unchanged from the previous version. The headphones have retained their distinctive design with large colored ear cushions and a matching headband. The main changes occurred inside the device. The model received a new H2 chip – the same one that previously appeared in the AirPods Pro 2 headphones. It is this processor that has opened up access to a number of new features and improvements.

One of the key changes was a significant improvement of the ANC system. According to Apple, the combination of the H2 chip and new algorithms allows AirPods Max 2 to muffle extraneous sounds about 1.5 times more effectively than the previous generation. The sound component has also been updated. The headphones received a new amplifier, which should provide clearer music playback and improved spatial audio. For users who want to listen to music in a lossless format, there is a possibility to connect via the included USB-C cable.

Thanks to the H2 chip, AirPods Max 2 received a number of new software features. One of them is the Adaptive Audio mode, which automatically balances between transparency and active noise reduction modes depending on the environment. This allows users to hear important sounds around them while reducing unwanted noise.

Another feature is Conversation Awareness. It automatically lowers the volume of the content being played and increases the level of transparency when the user starts talking to the person next to them. The new model also features Live Translation. It works in conjunction with the iPhone and allows you to translate speech in real time between different languages.
Voice Isolation mode uses the computational audio algorithms of the H2 chip to highlight the human voice during calls while filtering out ambient noise. And with Camera Remote, users can take photos or record videos on their iPhone or iPad from a distance by pressing the Digital Crown on the headphones. Interactions with the Siri voice assistant are also available. Users can respond to Siri messages privately and without words – just nod your head to confirm or shake your head slightly to decline a request.

In fact, AirPods Max 2 have almost all the features that are available in AirPods Pro 3 headphones, but in the form factor of a full-size headset. They will be available for sale starting at $549.
The company recalled the Apple 2030 plan aimed at achieving carbon neutrality across the entire production chain by the end of the decade. As part of this plan, all AirPods Max 2 magnets use 100% recycled rare earth elements, headphones use 100% recycled polyester, and all PCBs use 100% recycled gold plating. The paper packaging is 100% cellulose and recyclable.
