Perplexity has released its Comet AI browser as a standalone application for iPhone. Previously, this tool appeared on PCs last summer, but then access to it cost $200 per month. Now, the new version is free of charge, just like the Android version that the company introduced last fall.

Comet is a browser with built-in artificial intelligence capabilities, a product category that has rapidly gained popularity over the past year. In fact, it is a combination of a regular web browser and a chatbot capable of performing certain actions for the user. For example, the service can summarize the content of pages or conduct additional searches to provide more context on a topic.

Perplexity describes Comet as a browser “that acts as a personal assistant and partner that thinks with you,” adding that it can “improve your concentration, optimize your workflow, and turn curiosity into action.” In addition, it “adapts to your way of thinking and working by learning your habits to help you get organized.”

The company also claims that the browser can even be used for shopping or scheduling.
Integration with Apple Liquid Glass technology is also mentioned, thanks to which the interface looks modern and attractive, and the address bar has a distinct visual accent. However, the iOS version has certain limitations related to the Apple ecosystem. In particular, users cannot install third-party extensions, although the browser can be set as the default one.
There are also privacy issues. Perplexity openly states that it uses browsers in part to collect user data for the purpose of targeted advertising. This may explain why the product, which used to cost $200 per month, is now available for free.

Today, Comet browser is available on iPhones, Android devices, as well as Windows and macOS computers. There is no separate version for the iPad yet, but the standard Perplexity app is already available for Apple tablets, so the browser may come later.
