Sony has introduced a new marketing name for its RGB Mini LED TVs, which are now being marketed under the True RGB brand. The move comes in response to the confusion that arose at CES 2026, where similar technologies were simultaneously introduced under the names Micro RGB and RGB Mini LED.

Sony decided to focus on the fact that each pixel of the backlight is formed by separate red, green, and blue LEDs, which, according to the company, provides clearer colors, higher brightness, and the largest color volume in the history of the brand’s home TVs.

At the same time, the new product is not a fundamentally new development. It is the same Micro RGB technology that Samsung, LG, Hisense and other manufacturers have previously demonstrated. These TVs use individual LEDs of three primary colors in combination with an LCD panel, while traditional Mini LED solutions are based on blue LEDs with quantum dots. Thanks to this approach, higher color accuracy and increased brightness are expected compared to conventional Mini LED models. At the same time, this technology differs from OLED, where each pixel emits light independently.

Sony emphasizes that the key difference between its TVs lies not only in the hardware but also in the software image processing. To control the LEDs, the company has adapted the algorithms used in its professional reference monitors, which are known for their high cost. This, according to the manufacturer, allows for more accurate color control and higher brightness levels, so that movies and TV shows are reproduced as close as possible to the authors’ intentions. In addition, the technology is supposed to reduce the effect of neighboring areas being illuminated, known as blooming, and improve color accuracy when viewed from an angle.

Although each manufacturer tries to claim the superiority of its own solutions, Sony has a strong reputation due to its experience in the field of movie cameras, participation in Hollywood projects, and the creation of reference displays. Final conclusions about the quality of the new Bravia TVs with True RGB technology can only be made after their release this spring. Until then, the company has promised to release additional details in the near future.
