At MWC 2026, they showed perhaps one of the strangest smartphones of the show, which can start a fire.

We are talking about the Oukitel WP63 ruggedized smartphone designed specifically for setting fires. An electric igniter is integrated into the case, designed for emergencies and camping, when you don’t have matches at hand, but you do have this massive device. In addition, the model has several notable features: a 20,000 mAh battery, a powerful speaker, and even a built-in USB-C cable for charging other gadgets.

However, the main reason for the interest was the igniter. The WP63 uses an electric coil that heats up based on the principle of car cigarette lighters from the late 1980s. It is hidden under a protective cover at the top of the case. Once the cover is opened, the function is activated via a separate app. An Oukitel representative demonstrated the device’s capabilities by setting a folded paper on fire, and the process looked quite controlled and gentle.

Another representative of the company noted that the igniter is not intended for lighting candles, although no logical explanation was given.

The cost of the device is expected to be around $500. Ignoring the general trend towards the thinnest possible cases, the manufacturer made it 27 mm thick. In the context of outdoor use, we can imagine another scenario: if a bear suddenly attacks you in the forest, this smartphone can theoretically try to fight it off.
