The traditional launch schedule of Xiaomi and Redmi, which has remained clear to the market for years, may be off this time. Usually, Xiaomi presents its flagship smartphones with a focus on cameras in September, and in October, Redmi releases more productive and affordable models for a different audience. This approach allowed the brands not to interfere with each other and clearly separate their own lines. However, the likely release of the Redmi K100 series in September may completely change this scheme.

The problem is not just the launch date shift. If the Redmi K100 is indeed released at the same time as the Xiaomi 18 series, both lines will actually be in direct internal competition. Xiaomi 18 is aimed at premium customers who value cameras with Leica customization and a more refined software experience. At the same time, the Redmi K100 Pro Max, which is estimated at about $690, will receive the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, focusing not on photographic capabilities but on maximum performance.

That’s why the September debut of both series creates a risk of direct audience overlap. Some users may refuse the more expensive Xiaomi 18 models in favor of the Redmi K100 Pro Max if performance is more important to them than camera capabilities. Against this backdrop, Xiaomi can take one of two paths: either postpone the launch of Xiaomi 18 to October to separate the lines again, or leave both releases in the same month and let the market decide the winner.

The strategy with processors within the Redmi K100 series is particularly noteworthy. The information about the use of last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the standard Redmi K100 is not related to component shortages or production difficulties. This is a deliberate decision by the company. Even in 2026, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 remains a powerful 3 nm processor, which is currently used in the Redmi K90 Pro Max as the current flagship solution.

The company plans to leave the new 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro as an exclusive for the K100 Pro Max. In this way, Redmi creates a clear division between the models and explains the difference in price. Buyers who want the latest generation of mobile processor will have to choose the more expensive option, while users who are satisfied with proven flagship performance at a lower price will be able to opt for the basic Redmi K100.

Redmi’s plans for the fourth quarter of 2026 create additional intrigue. An insider at Digital Chat Station said in comments on Weibo that the brand is preparing several new devices by the end of the year, although he did not disclose specific details. The most likely candidate for this period is currently considered to be the Redmi Turbo 6 series, as it corresponds to the usual schedule of model lineup updates. At the same time, there is no confirmation yet whether this is a separate series of smartphones or whether these new products will include a third model in the Redmi K100 lineup with a larger body format.
