OPPO is betting on the compact segment and trying to change the balance of power in the Android tablet market. The problem with this class of devices has always been obvious: manufacturers have simply not been proactive enough.
For years, the iPad Mini has remained without real competition, not because it was unaffordable, but because there were no serious alternatives. Now the situation may change as OPPO enters this niche with a new product.

The OPPO Pad Mini features an 8.8-inch LTPO OLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, adaptive refresh rate, and 2880×1920 pixel resolution, which is on par with flagship devices in a compact form factor. Inside is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor made on a 3nm process technology, with configurations up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of permanent storage. This may make it the first compact Android tablet with such a chip.
The 8000 mAh battery supports 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging, while the body weighs only 279 g, which looks like an atypical engineering achievement for this class of device. The thickness data is still different: some sources indicate 5.39 mm, others – 6.9 mm, so the final specifications should be expected after official confirmation.

It is worth noting that OPPO is not limited to the compact model. Along with it, it is preparing to present Pad 5 Pro, which represents the opposite concept. This tablet will have a 13.2-inch display and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, as well as a battery of approximately 12,000 mAh with the same 67W fast charging. It is aimed at users who need a large screen for productive work.
Thus, the company is forming two different strategies within the same lineup: a compact, powerful device for mobile use and a large tablet for stationary scenarios. Both models are expected to be presented this month, probably along with the Find X9 Ultra.

The segment of compact Android tablets has long been left without active development. If OPPO realizes the declared characteristics without changes, the company will not just join the competition, but may seize the leadership in this category.
