LG Electronics introduces the 40HT513D, a 40-inch curved ultra-wide monitor designed for diagnostic use. The model is designed to enhance the efficiency of radiologists and improve productivity during clinical studies. The monitor has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a medical device and has expanded LG’s portfolio of medical displays.

The new diagnostic monitor features a 40-inch curved IPS Black panel with a resolution of 5120×2160 pixels and 11 MP, providing the level of clarity required for medical imaging. Thanks to its 21:9 aspect ratio, a single screen allows users to perform tasks that would normally require three 3-megapixel monitors. The large workspace enables the simultaneous display of images from three different sources, minimizing gaps between them. The Picture-by-Picture feature allows doctors to simultaneously view current and previous X-rays, CT or MRI images, and electronic medical records on a single screen.

The monitor has a built-in KVM switch, which allows two PCs to be controlled using a single keyboard and mouse. You can switch between connected systems simply by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen, and files can be transferred between them using drag-and-drop. This approach eliminates the need for separate input devices and manual data transfer.

For stable and accurate image reproduction, the 40HT513D monitor is equipped with a removable calibration sensor that controls brightness and contrast. During operation, the sensor tip is housed inside the casing so it does not obstruct the screen; it extends only when calibration or performance measurement is required. The removable design simplifies maintenance and use of the sensor.

The monitor also features software functions for working with diagnostic images. Focus View brightens a selected area of the image while simultaneously dimming the surrounding areas without changing the zoom level. This helps you focus on the desired area and see details more clearly. Pathology Mode optimizes resolution and color reproduction for viewing pathology images, helping to distinguish cellular structures more clearly.

The LG Calibration Studio Medical software enables centralized management of diagnostic monitors within a medical facility. Using a single server, administrators can perform checks in accordance with quality standards for medical displays and track the results. If the system detects deviations in monitor performance – such as changes in calibration or brightness levels – it issues a notification. This enables a prompt response to potential issues and helps maintain consistent image quality.

Medical professionals have already noted the functional capabilities of the 40HT513D monitor and how convenient it is for radiologists to use.

“I had some doubts about how comfortable a curved display would be for working with diagnostic images, but I got used to it pretty quickly,” noted Professor Jeon Seung-in after about seven weeks of use. “The wide, borderless screen between work areas makes it much more convenient to work with multiple images at the same time. The frameless screen eliminates visual barriers between images, and its curved shape helps me focus better on diagnostic analysis.”
“LG will continue to expand its lineup of diagnostic monitors and actively develop its B2B medical device business,” emphasized Lee Chung-hwan, Executive Vice President and Head of the Display Business Division at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company.
