YouTube has intensified the fight against the so-called AI slop – massive low-quality content created with the help of generative artificial intelligence. According to Android Police and Kapwing research, the platform has shut down or purged at least 16 major channels specializing in AI videos in recent months.
Together, these channels had over 35 million subscribers and gained over 4.7 billion views. Among them were popular pages with animated AI stories and viral short videos that were actively shared in YouTube Shorts.

YouTube CEO Neil Mohan confirmed the new strategy in his address on the company’s plans for 2026. He stated that the platform does not prohibit the use of AI, but strengthens the filtering of “harmful synthetic media”, spam, repetitive and clickbait content.
The service also expands tools for detecting dipshits and automatically reduces the coverage of videos that the system classifies as low-quality or manipulative. The company emphasizes that the goal of the changes is to keep the platform attractive to viewers and at the same time support authors who create original content.
