It’s already been announced that Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios won’t be releasing the Fable RPG in 2026, as they want to avoid competing with other major titles. But postponing the release date doesn’t stop the developers from continuing to release new videos and gameplay trailers. For example, at Gamescom 2026, Microsoft presented another clip from the upcoming game, this time focusing on one of the quests that players will be able to complete early on.
The new 18-minute Fable demo transports players to the city of Bowerstone, the capital of Albion. According to the developers, players will encounter over 400 fully voiced NPCs here who will react to the player’s actions and interact with them. The game will also feature various real estate and employment systems.

After reuniting with her family, the protagonist heads to the Heroes’ Guild to meet Humphrey the Golden, who was once a legend in this part of the world. Here, the developers once again showcase the choice system, which allows players to determine how allies and random NPCs will perceive the main character and react to her actions. Humphrey is facing eviction, so the heroine decides at her own discretion whether to help him. After a skirmish with a few thugs and a conversation with a bandit apprentice – to whom she offers some helpful advice – the developers demonstrate the combat system in greater detail.

In battles, you can use a sword, a bow, and magic, combining all three types of attacks while dodging and parrying enemy strikes. Among the spells shown are fireballs, lightning bolts, and blades that appear around the heroine and fly toward the enemy. In previous trailers, the developers have already shown other magical abilities, including teleportation and the ability to turn enemies into chickens.

According to studio representatives, they chose the highest difficulty level for the demo to showcase the game’s combat system as effectively as possible. Meanwhile, the previous 30-minute demo focused on the game’s life and morale simulation systems.
Fable is set to release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on February 23, 2027, but Premium Edition owners will, as always, get to start playing five days earlier, on February 18. In addition, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to play the new RPG immediately upon release at no additional cost.
