A new educational and research facility, the KAI Huawei Excellence Center, has started operating at the Kyiv Aviation Institute. The center was created in partnership with Huawei, a global developer of telecommunications technologies. It is the first component of the future KAI LABS ecosystem and is intended to support the training of specialists in information and communication technologies (ICT).

The center’s primary goal is to build an innovation-oriented learning environment where students can study modern communication technologies – from 4G to 6G – work with networking solutions, Smart City systems, IoT platforms, and cybersecurity tools, and gain hands-on experience aligned with real-world industry requirements.

“The opening of the joint laboratory with Huawei is an important step in our university’s development strategy. It is essential for us that education at KAI is not limited to theory,” emphasized President Ksenia Semenova. “The joint laboratory creates unique opportunities: students will work with cutting-edge technologies, gain practical skills, and prepare for real challenges in the telecommunications industry.”

The center’s structure includes a lecture area, a hands-on laboratory space, and a relaxation zone. It will host the Huawei ICT Academy, enabling students to complete training and obtain international HCIA certification in Datacom, WLAN, and Security, as well as participate in practical training programs focused on telecommunications systems.

“The country’s greatest value is talented young people, universities with a strong history, and teachers who continue to educate even during wartime,” said Tony Cao, Director of Huawei Ukraine. “We believe in learning through practice, and the KAI Huawei Excellence Center will serve as a point of connection between academic education and the demands of the modern labor market, as well as a new direction for Ukrainian technical education.”

Each year, more than 200 students from two faculties will use the center’s facilities: Cybersecurity, Computer and Software Engineering, and Air Navigation, Electronics, and Telecommunications. The training will cover disciplines related to electronics, radio engineering, information systems, computer science, and cybersecurity.

“Huawei is one of the global leaders in telecommunications, with a strong R&D team and equipment regarded as among the best in the industry,” said Petro Chernyshov, Head of the KAI Supervisory Board. “I am familiar with their technical level from my time at Kyivstar. We want our students to learn from engineers of this caliber and to work with technologies that actively shape modern networks.”

The center will regularly host lectures and workshops involving Huawei engineers and ICT market representatives, who will share practical experience and current technical developments. Annual hackathons and scientific-practical conferences are also planned.
