BMW is continuing a major overhaul of its model lineup and has already unveiled several new models. In addition to the iX3 crossover and the i3 sedan, which were the first members of the Neue Klasse electric vehicle family, the 2027 model year iX4 will also hit the market.

The all-electric BMW iX4 will replace the current X4. Buyers will be offered two all-wheel-drive variants – the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive – which will differ in performance characteristics and range. Like other Neue Klasse models, the iX4 will feature the latest batteries, a powertrain, an improved design, and BMW’s cutting-edge technologies.

The 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive will be equipped with a sixth-generation eDrive powertrain and a 108.7 mAh battery. As a result, the electric vehicle offers a range of up to 805 km under the WLTP cycle. For the U.S. market, the model is equipped with a 112.2 mAh battery, providing an estimated range of up to 434 miles (698 km) according to EPA standards.

Ahead of its anticipated debut, scheduled for later this year, the 2027 BMW iX4 was photographed during testing at the Nürburgring in Germany.

The new photos show that the iX4 features the updated Neue Klasse design. Despite the camouflage, BMW’s new signature front grille with four light elements is visible at the front. Thanks to its sloping roofline, the iX4 will be a more elegant alternative to the iX3. Although the interior hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s expected to be similar to that of the iX3. The car is set to feature a 17.9-inch center display, a redesigned steering wheel, and the BMW Panoramic Vision 3D Head-Up Display.

The new BMW iX3 has already proven its capabilities in real-world conditions on multiple occasions. The iX3 50 xDrive is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain that delivers a combined output of 463 k.s. and 916 Нм of torque. The model is built on an 800-volt architecture and supports fast DC charging at up to 400 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes.

Since the iX4 will use the same platform, it is expected to offer a range of at least around 400 miles (644 km). Under the WLTP cycle, the most powerful version will likely be able to travel over 805 km.
BMW will announce prices closer to the sales launch, but the iX4 will most likely be slightly more expensive than the iX3. In the U.S., the BMW iX3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500, and in Europe, it starts at €73,925 (about $85,200). The iX3 40 is also available on the European market starting at €63,400 (approximately $73,000), with a range of up to 628 km under the WLTP cycle.
Since the BMW iX4 will arrive at dealerships as a 2027 model, its official debut is expected by the end of this year or in early 2027. The company has promised to release more details soon.
