Activision has finally officially presented the latest game from Infinity Ward, confirming rumors that had been circulating earlier about the location and the list of supported platforms. This project brings the reenactment of current global conflicts in gaming to a radically different level. The new Modern Warfare 4 will offer the audience higher technical parameters, a completely redesigned character movement system, the return of the popular DMZ mode and many other innovations. Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 4, which is not to be confused with the cult game of the same name Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, released in 2007, have already started.

The latest installment of this hugely popular first-person shooter series will go on sale on October 23. Owners of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, users of Steam and Battle.net digital platforms, as well as future owners of Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to evaluate the new product.

Since Call of Duty developers have decided to stop supporting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems, Modern Warfare 4 will offer users much larger game locations, a higher level of environmental interactivity and a more stable frame rate. On personal computers, all available modes will feature ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion shading, as well as realistic shadows and volumetric effects. Accordingly, players should be prepared for the fact that the system requirements of this project will be significantly higher than the previous installments of the franchise.
At the same time, the free-to-play battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone will also cease to function on previous generation consoles immediately after the release of Modern Warfare 4. Starting from June 4, it will be impossible to download this game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and on June 25, the in-game store will be completely disabled on these devices.

Last year’s release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 caused a lot of discussion due to its campaign focused exclusively on co-op play, where there was no way to pause the gameplay. In contrast, Modern Warfare 4 returns to the classic single-player format, although its theme risks becoming the most controversial in a long time. The storyline will force players to constantly switch between two perspectives: on the one hand, there will be a South Korean soldier who is in the midst of a new outbreak of armed conflict on the Korean Peninsula, and on the other, the series’ undisputed leader, Captain Price, who will complete missions in different parts of the world.

The Call of Duty franchise has never been a problem for raising hot topics or borrowing stories from real news feeds. The storylines of the Modern Warfare sub-series are mostly based on obvious references to real military operations of the past and present that took place or are ongoing in Iraq, Iran, Mexico, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries.

In a recent conversation with The Washington Post, Infinity Ward representatives explained that the choice of Korea as the main location was due to the fact that the Asian region was rarely mentioned within the franchise, as well as the rapid growth of Korean culture in the world. While creating the game, the studio actively interacted with its employees of Korean descent, engaged North Korean fugitives as consultants, and consulted with experts from the region. Despite this careful approach, focusing on such a sensitive political issue may provoke a new wave of discussions about boycotting Microsoft, the parent company of Infinity Ward and Activision, due to its involvement in the current confrontation in the Middle East.
At the time of its release, Modern Warfare 4 will offer users 12 standard maps for online battles, as well as special locations created separately for Big War and Gunfight modes. In addition, there will be a Kill Block mode, where the map configuration will undergo transformations directly between rounds. The return of DMZ, a signature mode in the evacuation format, has also been confirmed. For fans of online competitions, the developers have prepared an optional updated prestige system that will allow you to reset your combat progress to the first level, but will save all created personalized weapon sets in the Create-a-Class menu. Infinity Ward specialists have significantly redesigned the behavior of weapons and movement mechanics in multiplayer, completely removing random bullet dispersion, making recoil more predictable, and adding more options for players to jump and overcome various obstacles.
The developers promise to release additional information about the features of the multiplayer component, including the specifics of the upcoming open beta testing, in the coming months.
