Recently, during a Nintendo Direct broadcast, Microsoft shared news about Minecraft, announcing that the popular game will finally receive a native version for the Nintendo Switch 2. The native port will take full advantage of the new console’s capabilities and will also offer players the Vibrant Visuals graphics update.

But now developer Mojang has revealed the release date for the long-awaited update for console owners. So get ready – the official release of the new version is set for October 27.
Although Nintendo Switch 2 owners have been able to play Minecraft since the console’s launch thanks to backward compatibility with the original Nintendo Switch version, once the full standalone version is released, they’ll be able to take full advantage of their device’s capabilities. The port will deliver better performance and access to new features, including Vibrant Visuals.

The Vibrant Visuals graphics update has been available on PC, consoles, and mobile devices since last year. It will be set as the default rendering mode and will add volumetric lighting, volumetric fog, directional lighting, and other visual enhancements that make the game significantly more appealing.
In addition, the new version will include the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Mojang will also update it to make the world and skins compatible with the Vibrant Visuals graphics enhancements.

“The beloved Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will also receive an update to take full advantage of the Vibrant Visuals graphics,” Mojang representatives said. The company noted that the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is available only in the Nintendo versions of Minecraft and adds a Mario-themed world, background music, and unique skins. Players can explore iconic locations, including Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza, within the Minecraft world.

Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, the new version may also support Joy-Con 2 mouse mode. This will allow Nintendo Switch 2 owners to control the game with greater precision, just like on a PC.
Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 Edition isn’t just available as a standalone purchase. A paid digital update will be available for owners of the original version of the game on Nintendo Switch. The company also announced that after upgrading to the new version, players will be able to transfer their save data from the original Nintendo Switch. Additional details, including the cost of the update, will be announced at a later date.
